It would be pointless to spend  time having you read FBI and other statistics regarding women as crime victims.  There's almost no worse feeling for anyone than fear, being afraid and not knowing what to do. But to some extent fear can be overwhelmed by knowledge and training about what to do in the split-seconds you find yourself facing life changing decisions.

A woman should be informed in the safe handling and use of firearms and have some modicum of self-defense training.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs Office will host a program named "Safe and Secure: A ladies Firearm Safety and Self-Defense Workshop, Saturday April 29 from 8A-3P.  The workshop at 3958 Mallard Cove Dr., Lake Charles is FREE and open to women from Calcasieu Parish 18 years old and over.  The SO is even springing for lunch!

If you are or know a woman that could use a little instruction and extra confidence in protecting  herself - share this story with her.  This is a self-defense workshop and she'll get to handle guns, learn about safety issues in the home and car how to handle the weapon safely and she'll even get some range time to pop off a few rounds.  The SO only asks that ladies bring their own guns, about a dozen rounds and hearing and eye protection.

The workshop will be taught by CPSO deputies who are certified self-defense instructors and includes hands-on instruction in women's self-defense techniques and information on prevention of sexual assault, home and personal safety.

The workshop is FREE but ladies must pre-register with the Sheriffs Office at 337-491-3715
