Coming into the match both the Houston Baptist and McNeese soccer teams had 19 points each, effectively tying them for third in conference standings. That evenness would set the tone for the afternoon yesterday at the McNeese Cowgirls home pitch.

The first half was dominated by defense with a mere nine total shots taken and only one on goal, there was no first half scoring. But in the second half Rachel Palet powered a shot into the back of the Houston Baptist net, a ball that was sitting still on the field after a bad HBU pass, Cowgirls 1-0.

McNeese Head Coach Drew Fitzgerald

In the 78th minute HBU came on to tie the game propelling it into the first overtime in which no goals were scored. But just two minutes into the second OT the Huskies hit net to end the game 2-1.

Afterwards coach Drew Fitzgerald said I Felt like we played well enough and created enough opportunities to win the match, but we need to be able to put teams away when those chances come up. We'll learn what we can from this and move on.  Also have to give credit to HBU for fighting hard even though they are a bit banged up at the moment.

The Cowgirls play their final game Friday October 26th against Lamar.
