CPSO: Texan Arrested for 3rd DWI
She advised the deputies she'd just taken medication as the reason she was driving erratically around the parking lot yelling out of her window at employees of the store on Hwy 171.
But the deputies who'd arrived just after 6 PM Thursday suspected her slurred speech and unsteady balance might be caused by insobriety. One deputy attempted to conduct a field sobriety test, but 58-year-old Christi K. Covington of Montgomery, Texas, with her unstable balance was unable to complete the testing.
She was transported to a local hospital and CPSO obtained a warrant to have her blood drawn by hospital personnel for a toxicology report.
Sure enough, she was thereafter transported to the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with her 3rd DWI. Deputies also learned Covington had an out of state detainer from Texas, Judge Ron Ware set bond at $7,500.
The arresting deputy on the case was Sr. Cpl. Christopher Miller.
