Glenn Campbell: Goodbye
One of the most amazing guitar players to ever pick’em has gone to his final rest. Glen Travis Campbell who was one of music’s most successful studio musicians played on hit songs for the Beach Boys, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Phil Spector, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra to drop a few big names.
Campbell was born on April 22, 1936 and was such an accomplished musician, it’s easy for me to overlook his ‘stiff’ acting as Texas Ranger LeBeouf in the original John Wayne “True Grit” in 1969. But that came after Glenn’s breakthrough record album in 1967 that produced ‘Galveston’ and my lifelong favorite “Gentle on My Mind’. That led to a prime-time CBS television show ‘The Glenn Campbell Goodtime Happy Hour” and other successful touring and concert appearances.
Glenn Campbell announced to the world in 2011 that he’d been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, we all knew then the last of the sands of his life were passing through the narrow bottle neck.
Glenn Campbell was 81. May he rest in the Peace of our Lord.
