I-10 Closed In Orange This Weekend For Construction

Andrew Harre

Anyone planning a weekend trip into Texas this week needs to re-think the usual I-10 route near the border and avoid using I-10 east or west.

The Texas Department of Transportation's Sarah Dupre  has announced what they call a "Major Traffic Detour" (meaning you can camp next to your car) March 31st 7PM to April 3rd at 7AM.  That's Friday night until Monday morning.

All I-10 eastbound traffic will be detoured to the frontage road at the SH 87 exit, westbound traffic will be down to one lane also.  As well SH 87 (the main road in Orange that goes under the interstate) will be closed as well and you will not be able to pass under the interstate.

The closure is necessary to proceed with building the overpass at 87 on I-10.

Other routes in and out of Texas in the southern region are SH 12 at Deweyville, or taking the really long way through Cameron, Johnsons Bayou into Port Arthur, Texas via Hwy 82.
