Port Cameron has proposed building a $1.5 billion dollar deep-water staging facility on 500 acres of land along the Calcasieu Ship Channel, with an extra 750 acres in reserve for future expansion.

Ted Falgout the ports executive director said the potential for this facility is endless.  According to Falgout the facility could be the most significant energy port in the world.  Cameron Parish has major assets that would appeal to the energy industry – the new buzzword in industry is ‘sharing’ and the new port facility would allow companies operating in the Gulf to share services.

It should go without mentioning but I'll mention it: this could mean not only construction jobs in building the facility, but jobs in maintenance and a centering of offshore operations from other locations to our backyard.
