The United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) today announced winners of the Team Academic Award Winners at the high school and college levels, the award recognizes exemplary performance in the classroom by athletes during the 2017-18 academic year.
The McNeese Cowgirls soccer team was recognized for the third straight year, not only will the Cowgirls smack you around the pitch, but they've got book smarts too. And by the way, the team has won the award every year since coach Drew Fitgerald took over.
In remarks to the media, Fitzgerald said We are incredibly proud of the work our student-athletes do in the classroom. We know they are students first and they understand that as well. Their ability to continue to be successful on the pitch while earning really high marks in the classroom is impressive and we are grateful to have players that take their responsibilities so seriously.
Back in Action on Friday
The Cowgirls will host Nicholls State Friday night, kickoff is at 7 pm on Cowgirl Field. Idaho native and sophomore Havana Johnson who had two goals and an assist in two outings last weekend lead the Cowgirls into action having also won Player of the Week Awards.
