Sam Shepard: RIP
The first time I think I really noticed Samuel Shepard Rogers was in 'The Right Stuff'. I'd read the book and when the movie came out he was just perfect as Chuck Yeager. When the females in my life forced me to watch 'Steel Magnolias' he did a good turn in that, and there was 'Black Hawk Down', 'The Notebook' and many other solid roles on the big screen. Off of it he was a playwright and an all around trooper.
Shepard won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for a play called "Buried Child", he was nominated for the prize two more times in 1983 and 84. Shepard once said: "I didn't go out of my way to get into this movie stuff. I think of myself as a writer."
Sam Shepard passed away over the weekend from ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 73 years old. May he rest in the Peace of our Lord.
