If you're an Entergy electricity customer and you get a call about your bill demanding you pay your energy bill immediately over the phone with a pre-paid card hang up. It's a scam.

Recently Entergy has received multiple reports of attempted bill paying scam in the Beaumont, Texas, and SWLA areas.

On Friday the utility collected five reports of homeowners being called and instructed to put money on a Green Dot or other third party card and then call back with immediate payment. Without payment, the scammers threatened the homeowner with having their electricity cut off.

For the record, according to Entergy they will never call and demand immediate payment over the phone. If you receive a call such as this do not give the caller any personal information, hang up and call Entergy at 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749) and speak to an actual customer service person.

Entergy offers several legitimate ways to pay your bill through standard checks, Visa, Mastercard, bank draft and so on. See them online at the companys website here.

If you think you've already been a victim, notify your local authorities to possibly pursue charges against the scammers.
