We wrote a couple weeks ago about local Special Olympians loading up to head to the national games in Seattle (June 28th-July 6th), and now they're back and have carted home some heavy metal, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Overall Southwest Louisiana is now home to 11 Gold Medals, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze and owns some bragging rights over the rest of the state.

There were nearly 3,000 competitors that attended and competed in the '18 USA Games in front of some 70,000 spectators.

President & CEO of Special Olympics Louisiana, Pat Carpenter Bourgeois, said, “I couldn’t be more proud of our athletes who participated in the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle. Some of them accomplished personal best scores, and some discovered the competition is very tough at the USA Games level.  The coaches and partners were very complimentary of our athletes and they displayed exceptional sportsmanship. Every participant had a unique experience and represented Louisiana well.”
