A Colorado grass-roots group led by a board certified anesthesiologist are seeking to get smart phones banned for children under 13 years old.

And the state has cleared language for Initiative 29 to be placed on the 2018 ballot, some of the language includes the prohibition of sales of smartphones to a person under the age of 13, or to any person who indicates the smartphone will be used by a person under age 13.  The store will have to ask you as they could face fines from $500 to $20,000.

I wouldn't expect a huge black market for 'kiddie phones' to develop.

Dr. Timothy Farnum and his group still need some 300,000 signatures to get the initiative on the ballot.  But he's got a compelling point in seeking to get this ban.

Dr. Farnum's case is that smartphones change younger children: "They go from being outgoing, energetic, interested in the world and happy, to reclusive. They want to spend all their time in their room.  They lose interest in outside activities" said the Dr.

Why hasn't someone thought of this before?
