Rock and Roll, Rock, Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, Fusion, Classic Rock.  They're all slightly different musical colors stemming from the same roots.  At the root of the tree among just a few others you'll find Aretha Louise Franklin.  The "Queen of Soul" has been part of the sound track of our lives since she signed with Ahmet Ertegun's Atlantic Records in 1967 and released R-E-S-P-E-C-T.  What followed was 112 charted singles on Billboard including 77 on the Hot 100.

Like many others who are blessed with the gifts she possesses, she loves sharing with audiences around the world, and has been performing almost non-stop for some 56 years straight.

Many remember her performance of 'You Better Think" in the cult hit "Blues Brothers" movie from 1978.  It's a scene were Jake and Elwood are attempting to recruit her man for their schemes, from their mom and pop grill, and Aretha is warning him (Matt Murphy) that he'd better 'think' about it before leaving his employ. It's a fun little clip and you can see it by clicking here.

Now Ms. Franklin has had to cancel a July 1st appearance in Toronto on "Dr's orders" according to her publicist.

Earlier this year Aretha announced this would be her last year in the concert business and she'd be quitting in order to spend more time with her grandchildren who are preparing to leave for college.  In February she said she wanted to keep recording, but 2017 would be it for tour buses, hotel food and dressing rooms.

No other details were given as to the Toronto cancellation - we at Classic Rock 92.1 wish Aretha Franklin the best for a good rest and speedy recovery.
