Cowboy Pitching; 4 Hit Shutout Over LSU To Start Road Trip
It's been three years since the LSU Tigers were shut out in a non-conference game but today congratulate your McNeese Cowboys in their 2-0 blank-out of the Tigers in their own park.
The win also was the 3rd for McNeese over LSU in the past four seasons.
Starter Brett Payne registered his best effort of the season so far. In his second start the freshman pitched 6 complete, gave up no runs and struck out five to record his first win of the year. (1-0) Last nights domination of the Tigers lowered his ERA from 6.14 down to 3.38.
LSU Jammed The Cowboys All Night - The Eighth The Toughest
The Cowboys were in jams in the 2nd, 5th, and 8th innings. Most notably in the eighth inning, Tigers second baseman Ben Broussard led the inning off with a single and then reached third base on a wild pitch to give LSU a man in scoring position with no outs.
The Cowboys would then walk the next batter to give the Tigers a man on the corners with no outs. The next three batters would be set down in order by way of a lineout to third baseman Carson Maxwell, pop out to second baseman Nate Fisbeck, and then a groundout to Fisbeck to end the inning and hold the Tigers scoreless.
Conference Play Begins Friday
McNeese is in Huntsville, Texas, Friday to open a three-game weekend series with the Sam Houston Bearkats, first pitch Friday at 6 pm.
