Girl Marries Mom; Guilty of Incest
This is one of those stories you expect to hear coming out of Florida, but it actually comes from the second state on my unofficial list of places where ignorance reigns: Oklahoma.
According to court records, recently a 26-year-old Misty Spann of Duncan, OK (a little east of Lawton) has pleaded guilty to incest, and was sentenced to 10 years of probation due to having married her biological mother.
On the other hand, her mother, one 44-year-old Patricia Spann, pleaded not guilty to incest. Shouldn't both be guilty or innocent?
But give the mother some credit. She thought it'd be okay because she's not listed on her daughter's birth certificate and long ago lost custody of her. She's also not listed on either of her sons' birth certificates and, by the way, back in 2010, Ms. Spann married one of her sons, too. That marriage was annulled.
This family tree basically only consists of a stump.
Prosecutors say the mother-daughter marriage was annulled in October at the request of the daughter on the grounds of fraud and illegality. If you'd like to delve deeper into sheer Okie ignorance, click here.
Otherwise, keep an eye on your local listings, the Spann family is certainly great subject material for their own reality tv show.
