The 2019 Southland Conference football preseason poll is out. Generated by league head coaches and sports information directors, for the first time in half a decade Sam Houston isn't the number one pick going in.

De-fending co-champion Nicholls State was the groups choice to finish first this year, the decision being weighed by the return of the Colonels Sr. QB Chase Fourcade. Fourcade was the 2018 SLC Player of the Year by the way.

This year Sam Houston (my alma mater) was picked to finish fourth. After nine straight winning seasons the Bearkats failed to make the playoffs last year ending seven straight playoff appearances. The coaches committee punished them this year for last years falter.

The coaches picked McNeese's Sabine River rival Lamar to finish ahead of the Cowboys.
