At 6 pm tonight while I'm still sweating over a hot microphone and stacks of Classic Rock KTSR wax, the McNeese Cowgirls volleyball team returns to action with Central Arkansas.

McNeese who is 8-8, 1-3 SLC, is headhunting for their first road conference win after stumbling with SE Louisiana and Nicholls in the past couple of weeks. On the positive side the Cowgirls celebrated a win last week over Abilene Christian days before dropping a contentious physical match to Stephen F Austin.

In spite of their record the spikers lead the league in service ace with 114 on the season, they rank fifth in digs with 884 for an average of 14.98 per set and, show the promise of a good season in the Southland Conference.

Team leaders include Allison Lippert with twenty service aces and Caitlin Sharrock and Regan Stiawalt are tied at seventeen. The dig leader so far is Angela McGownd with 5.12 per set or 292 on the season. In the kills department Alexis Lambert has a team best of 130 and right behind her is Keegan Nelms 127 on the year.

Volleyball 'kills' of course are those dramatic and fantastic shots to opposing players that can't possibly be returned, thus killing play until the ball is re-served. A kill might be the most intense play in the sport often bringing the fans to their feet.

UCA won't be anything less than a test for the McNeese Cowgirls. Central Ark is 7-10 and 1-3 SLC but are riding high emotions after a Sugar Bear 3-2 win over Incarnate Word and a tough fought loss to Texas A&M Corpus Christi this past Saturday.

First serve is tonight at 6 pm in Conway, Arkansas. For more information on the McNeese Volleyball program click here.
