Moderate Flooding Along Sabine River
This afternoon the USGS Flood Forecast map showed moderate levels of flooding along the Sabine River (click here) as Toledo Bend Dam has been releasing water from all gates, opened at 1 foot each. (Toledo Bend: All Gates Open)
Never drive or even walk through flood waters if you can avoid it. Bridges over fast moving water can suffer a scouring effect around their supports, eroding them and potentially collapsing the bridge, use extreme caution in crossing bridges over swollen rivers and streams.
Six inches of moving water can knock you down, only one foot of moving water (knee deep) can sweep your vehicle away.
