Salmonella In Ground Beef Sold at Walmart, 57 Sick In 16 States
If you have prepackaged ground beef in your home, check the label to see if it was produced between July 26 through September 7, 2018. Recalled products have the establishment number EST. 267 inside the USDA inspection mark.
The USDA issued an alert, and one of their concerns is some of the beef could be in your freezer tucked away for a future dinner. Check the labels. Also, the potentially tainted product was sold under the brand names Showcase, sold mainly at Walmart, including those in SWLA. Other brand names for the ground beef are JBS Generic, Grass Run Farms Natural (really?), Gourmet Burger, Conner Perfect Choice, and Cedar River Farms Natural. Read the full list here.
The beef was manufactured by slaughterhouse JBS Tolleson, Inc., who issued the recall on October 4. The salmonella, or salmonellosis, is a common bacterial foodborne illness whose symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12-72 hours after eating contaminated food. The condition lasts 4-7 days.
