This Sulphur Tor went largely unnoticed by colleges when he finished high school. But when baseball tryouts at McNeese came around so did Will Dion. He walked uninvited onto the practice field and became one of the best pitchers on the team from the start of the 2019 season.

Dion lead the team in appearances this year with 29 and finished with a 1.98 ERA, earned six saves, allowed only 13 runs (11 earned), struck out 62 and held the opposing batters to only a .155 average against his left arm. Dion also finished the season with a perfect 5-0 record.

Today his name was announced in making the second-team Freshman All-American team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The team features freshmen from 30 different schools across 16 different conferences. Only one other player from the SLC made the team, Incarnate Word's Taylor Smith.

Join us in congratulating Will Dion, freshman lefty pitcher from McNeese and All American.
